Riding via a hilly cycle path through the Amerongse forest, we arrive in Rhenen where we park the cycles to enjoy a
tasty cup of coffee. To arrive eventually at the castle in Doorwerth, we go
through a large nature reserve over the Grebbeberg and the Laarseberg. We
will pas
Doorwerth Castle and go to the lock and dam complex in Driel where the
cycles are put on board again. The ship sails further to Arnhem and we will
spend the night here. Having a delightful rest, you can enjoy a splendid,
twisting river landscape.
Arnhem – Zutphen
Wednesday
45 km (28 miles) or 10 km (6 miles)
First yet a little more of busy Arnhem but then the cycle
trip goes further over the national park Veluwezoom. This is Holland’s
oldest national park, formed by heather, woods, hills and shifting sands.
The hilly landscape offers splendid panoramic views. We cycle along the
Elsberg game observation post to Huis Eerbeek. One of the oldest churches in
Holland is in the small village of Hall. In consultation with the sexton, we
will try to visit this church. From the church we will had to
the
attractive village of Bronckhorst. The last "etappe" of this day
will be to Zutpen. Zutphen
is a Hanze
town and one of the top 5 Dutch towns from the middle ages. You will see
more Hanze towns on this tour way. The boat sails to Hattum the same
afternoon to spend the night.
Hattem –
Harderwijk
Thursday

The
next morning we start with a visit to the Anton Piek and Voorman museum in
Hattem. Two romantic
painters and illustrators from the early 20th century that had a perfect sense for atmosphere.
From
here the cycle tour begins over the heather to Elburg.
Through
the rural landscape and small cycle paths we will find our way to this nice
town.
Elburg
used the be a very important fishing village on the former South Sea. If we
arrive in time you will have the change of visiting the market or climb the
old tower that was part of this towns defense system hundreds of years ago.
From
here we follow our tour through the "new land" of the
Flevo
polder to Harderwijk where we will spend the night.
Harderwijk
- Nijkerk - Almere
Friday
35 km (22 miles) or 50 km (31 miles)
We cycle through the centre in the direction of the Leuvense forest. We
come across two very nice mansions before we enter the
Ermelose heather, we cycle to old Groevenbeek and Putten. We stop at the “Het
Arboretum pinetuin” (The Arboretum Pine Garden). On this country estate you
can find trees from all corners of the world. At the end of the afternoon
you we arrive in Nijkerk where the Elodie will be waiting voor you at the
locks, after a sailing trip, we arrive in Almere where we will have an
evening tour to a special
Casle.
Almere– Amsterdam

If you want to spend more time in
Ámsterdam you can join us for a sailing trip to Amsterdam and
enjoy the changing picture of the border lakes.
If you don't want to mis another day of healthy
exercise you can go for a 45 km
cycle trip and visit the Muiderslot, one of Holland finest Castles. We will meet
you back in Amsterdam.
The Elodie lies moored in the middle of the town
a very good starting point to visit this
lively city. In
the evening you can choose a restaurant to you liking out of the many good
restaurant you can find in Amsterdam.

We take
leave of you after breakfast.
